Words will only spoil the moment, I'll take questions in the comments, for now, behold paradise:
Saving the second best for second last, an original Cobra was there:
And best for last, the 1966 Ford GT40:
I'll take any questions you have now, granted I didn't talk to many of the staff as they were busy and I didn't want to get in anyone's way. They just let me wander around with a big stupid grin on my face.
Damn that was a good day.
As a heads-up, when all my photo's are done, I'm going to do a big NYC trip photo dump. So look out for that.

Im confident they removed this from the Cobras tire by now.
We'll just blame Connecticut for that.

Oh geez, I would imagine so!
There was a gorgeous silver C2 Corvette Convertible that was there, but I didn't take any pictures because the rear end took a hit and the back right was all messed up. I didn't want anyone to see her that way. :(

Silver? I thought it was a darker color.
Either way, someone messed up the 'vette?! Damn, I really like that one.
The Cobra is a Backdraft (right? Backdraft?), and the GT40 is a CAV. Neither are original, both are still awesome.

I have a video that I'll upload to YouTube after my photos are up of the GT40 backing into the Club. The engine was amazing, like caged fury at idle. When I post it, I'll let you know.

Yeah, I think the insurance companies would have a very large number of kittens if original cars were being driven by clients like those cars get driven.
Then again, I wouldn't mind a little kitten in my life, so maybe just once?
But yeah, the GT40 is a CAV replica, says so on the valve covers too. That Cobra is also a little worse for wear. I wonder if they ever replaced the air filter, because that thing was loooooooong overdue last time I saw the car, back in august.
Also, I see that 'vette in the background of a couple pics. Such a shame. I'm sure they'll get it fixed and keep going. They do well with their cars, considering how many there are to keep track of.

This was my first time there, I hit:
New York Public Library
Times Square (Obvs)
Little Italy/Chinatown
Lower East Side and the Tenement Museum (Because my brother went to the Lamborghini Museum when he went to Italy, so I indulged him.)
Comic-Con at the Javits Center
One World Trade
The Upper West Side
The Empire State Building
Nintendo World (Found it on a day of aimless wandering no less!)
Classic Car Club of Manhattan
5th Avenue
and I stopped at a Barnes and Noble where Neil Young was doing a book signing. (To browse, not for Neil Young.)

Sorry to be a bubble burster but it's not original. It's a Backdraft reproduction, suspension is all BMW E36 bits to make it handle a bit more like a sports car. Still massive amounts of cowl shake.

My feet felt like bloody stumps after every day.
On the day I went to the Upper West Side, I started wandering around near 42nd Street near the Public Library and then eventually got on 7th Avenue and said to myself: "How far can I walk?" and just started walking on the West side. I found Juliard and the Philharmonic, and just kept going until I was hungry. Stopped had dinner and by the time I figured out where the next subway station was, I was on 86th.
All and all, fit in a decent amount into the trip and blew my conceptions about New York to pieces. 5/5, would visit again.

I dunno, I felt it gave them a little bit of personality, like they aren't sanitized garage queens. The Illest sticker is for one specific Jalop who has an Illest sticker on the back of his Astra, that was sort of a nod to him.

It was my first time, and to be honest, as a regular reader of Gawker, I was expecting the typical New York. Rude locals, dirty city, packed sidewalks, the whole lot.
I can say that while it wasn't as clean as I'm used to in Toronto (The biggest city I usually visit.) it wasn't that bad (Although I did see a rat on the subway rails, which was more interesting and amusing than disgusting!) the sidewalks were alright except during peak hours obviously. But the myth that New Yorkers are rude, that got put to bed pretty damn quickly. Sorry's when bumped, excuse me's when trying to pass you and offers to help with luggage on the subway. New Yorkers have the wrong end of the stick when being portrayed. I ran into nothing but kind people and I was at my most Canadian in return.
Being shown how wrong I was about that was one of the best things about the trip. (The GT40, was of course, the best thing.)

I left yesterday at 5 p.m., that's the only reason I can post now is because I'm back home with an internet connection. Wi-Fi is a bitch to get in that city if you don't have a data plan and the hotel your in doesn't play nice with your Windows Phone.

No, I wish. In my other post I mentioned, there's a couple CCC employees here on Oppo (Aaron Brown and another), and I've been there a couple times to just be nosey and look at the cars. I meet up with Aaron at New Canaan and he brought the Cobra to the last C&C I went to in September, that's when we noticed the sheet metal screw in the tire.

I can't do heat either. Toronto isn't great for that, sitting on Lake Ontario and all, but there's a lot of good stuff to do there if you know where to look.
Protip for you, or anyone you know going there: If you find yourself needing to use a bathroom and you're near Union Station, head across the street to the Royal York hotel. Then, take the elevator up to the third floor conference area and along the wall you'll find the men's room there. It's easily the best washroom I've found in the city of Toronto and so long as you walk with confidence, nobody will second guess you. Women's bathroom is in the back corner.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks for the tip! Luckily last time I went my hotel wasn't too far from the CN tower so walking places wasn't too bad. But the 90+ degrees and humidity just killed me.
Finding a bathroom in NYC was just ridiculous the first time I went.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
I don't even know, they don't list it on the website because there's different levels of involvement for the club. I'd love to be a member one day, hell, I handed a resume in hoping to change job directions and work there, but it didn't work out.
If I had enough income to do it, I would absolutely join, no question about it. For now, I'm happy to know I can stop by any time and hang out and occasionally go to an event with them as a fellow car guy.

Yeah, well, considering I only make a few hundred on a paycheck, I'm going to say I don't quite make the money for it.
I have a friend who makes several times what I do, he could afford it, easily, but he has his own toys in the garage that he doesn't have time to play with.

JGrabowMSt

10/15/2014 at 22:03 | 0 |
I'm entirely sure they don't approve everyone, and because of the different packages they offer, it can affect the price. Someone with a poor driving record may be vetted against taking cars out as often, I'm sure it's something that can easily be a case by case situation for every applicant.
Considering how well they appear to do, I think they can easily afford to keep doing what they're doing.

I can say with confidence now, that the Lexington Hotel is just as easily exploited as the Royal York. There's a card reader on the bathroom door, but just walk in through the Starbucks entrance and take the stairway on the left, go upstairs past the elevators onto the mezzanine and go right. Nobody will bat an eye if you use those bathrooms. By New York standards, it's pretty clean.
If you gotta go and you're near East 48th and Lexington, that's the place you want to head for.

There are three levels of annual membership: silver, gold, and platinum, for $4,500, $8,000, and $13,000, respectively. All members have access to all of the cars, and reservations (the word "rental" is never used) are based on a points system. Platinum members get the most points, and can have the cars delivered to them at home.
